MIC is upset with the police for delaying legal action against the man who called Hindus 'syaitan' during the Thaipusam festival this year.
PETALING JAYA: MIC Youth expressed disappointment over the delay in charging Man Namblast over his racist remark on Facebook which had described Hindus as ‘syaitan’ or demons during the Thaipusam festival.
Speaking to FMT, the party’s youth wing New Media and Policy bureau chief P Punithan said that the police has to be fair in conducting investigations.
“MIC is very upset with the police and Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission(MCMC) on Man Namblast’s case,” he added.
According to Punithan, last month he was informed by the investigation officer that the investigation is pending due to MCMC’s delay in providing the technical report to charge Man Namblast who also known as Mohd Taufik.
He also added that while the police and MCMC were taking too long on the matter, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok was charged within a short time span for sedition over her Chinese New Year video titled ‘Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014′.
“So what is happening? Why the police and MCMC are still maintaining silence on the Man Namblast issue?” asked Punithan.
“The police and MCMC should not practice double standards in taking action,” he said adding that the least they could do is to keep the public informed as to the reasons of the delay.
“We hope the Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar will clear the air as soon as possible and be transparent for the sake of public confidence,” he added.
On a posting believed to be made on Jan 17, Man Namblast allegedly used a fake account and put up a picture on his Facebook wall with a caption that read:
“Berpuluh ribu syaitan sedang menaik Bt. Caves,”(in translation: tens of thousands of demons are marching up the stairs of Batu Caves).
The posting was then defended by a Mohd Hidayat using another account but police clarified later that both Hidayat and Taufik are the same person.
