Racial heroics? It's bull****, Gerakan president says

Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong did not mince his words when hitting out at those who would disrupt Malaysia's racial and religious unity.

"There are people who want to become racial heroes.

"They become what some people say 'oo hood' ('manly' in Hokkien slang). But to me its bull****!" Mah said to loud cheers from Gerakan delegates.

He was speaking at the party’s annual general assembly in Kuala Lumpur today.

Mah also slammed the violence between the red shirts and Bersih yesterday.

He said the police should take action against all who cause trouble, regardless of political affiliations.

"Even if they support us... Whether Gerakan, DAP, PAS, Umno... red, yellow, or green, all those who bring chaos to society, action must be taken (against them)", he declared.

Yesterday's convoys nationwide was marred by violence.

In Sabak Bernam, red shirt supporters egged and kicked a Bersih supporter, while in Tawau, windows of convoy vehicles were broken.

Meanwhile, on another matter, Mah also expressed concern about PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's proposed bill to strengthen syariah courts.

He said while Gerakan respected Islam, the bill's amendments were vague, and could lead to the implementation of hudud.

"We must not let the bill become a backdoor for the implementation of hudud," he said.

He then called on the government to revisit the idea of a national consultative council, to improve ties between all Malaysians. - Mkini
