Reveal chess tourney dress code, Wanita MIC demands

Wanita MIC wants the organisers of the National Scholastic Chess Championship 2017 to reveal the dress code, which was allegedly breached when a 12-year-old chess player wore a knee-length dress.
Wanita MIC chief Mohana Muniandy said organisers must also immediately explain and apologise over the matter.
"If they are saying she's in violation, then they need to point out the dress code and which code was violated, or else it's just an opinion that has no ground to stand on," she said in a statement.
Chess coach Kaushal Khandhar last week said the tournament director and chief arbiter of the championship did not allow the girl to compete because of her dress.
The chief arbiter later conceded and apologised to the girl and assured there was nothing wrong with her dress, but could not change the tournament director's decision, he said.
The girl dropped out of the tournament as the discussion happened at around 10pm and there was no time to buy a pair of slacks in time for the next round at 9am the next day, as the shops were all closed.
Kaushal demanded a public apology from the tournament director within five days, failing which he said they would “have no choice but to resort to legal proceedings”.
Tournament director Sofian Yusof, however, lodged a police report saying the matter has been twisted on Facebook postings.

The Malaysian Chess Federation said it will drop its internal probe as police are investigating the matter.
Meawhile, Mohana said those who see a 12-year-old in a dress as "tempting" should be jailed "for being paedophile".
"Looking at the little lady in her dress, if someone is having impure thoughts, we would suggest a thorough forensic investigation on that person's phone, tablets and computers," she said.
Mohana also urged that the director be kept away from children.- Mkini
