Seputeh MP urges police and MCMC to take such false allegations seriously as it is likely to increase in number against Pakatan Harapan leaders prior to GE14.
KUALA LUMPUR: DAP’s Seputeh MP Teresa Kok lodged a police report today over a false press statement released under her name stating that she would be attending the “Nations of the Golden Gate Aligning with Jerusalem’s Jubilee” event in Melaka.
“I’m denying and criticising the act of using my name to release a statement in relation to the ‘Jerusalem Jubilee’ event in Melaka, that has been shared on social media.
“I had no idea what the event was even about,” she told reporters outside the Sri Petaling police station.
Kok emphasised that she is not involved in organising the event and neither is she interested in joining the event.
She said that such fake statements are unethical and malicious in nature, which she feels is being used to defame DAP and her as a parliamentarian.
“This is also very dangerous with the next general election (GE14) coming, as there is likely to be more and more fake statements issued under Pakatan Harapan leaders’ names.
“It is serious enough for the police, home ministry and MCMC to really investigate and take action,” she said.
Kok urged the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take her report seriously and to have a neutral political stand.Yesterday, PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan called for the government to ban the church assembly scheduled to be held from June 15 to 18 in Melaka, alleging it had an agenda to promote “Zionist Christianity” and “Jewish culture”.
Nasrudin had described the event as a provocation that challenges the sensitivities of Muslims in Malaysia.
“We can never forget the sufferings of Muslims caused by the atrocities of Israel. Now, they seek to create an extreme provocation to Muslims by organising Jerusalem’s Jubilee on Malaysian soil.
“This Jewish culture should never be allowed to take root in our country. The government must take stern action. Don’t challenge the sensitivities of Muslims. Don’t rile this Malay land with this Zionist Christian activity,” he warned in a post on Facebook accompanied by a poster of the upcoming event.
Kok said that it is sad that some people are using the holy month to spread lies and false information about her, but added that this is not the first time, as it happened in 2008 and 2013.
Kok was accompanied by Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil, Selangor Amanah chairman Izham Hashim and her lawyer Khairil Khadir to lodge the report.
The event in Melaka is organised by the All Malaysian-Golden Gate Revival Convocation (AMGGRC), an evangelical church group.
According to AMGGRC, Melaka was chosen to host the assembly because Asean is celebrating its 50th Golden Jubilee this year.
The organisers also announced that they would heed police advice and cancel the event. Later yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that he had ordered the Jerusalem Jubilee event be banned. -FMT
