KUALA LUMPUR: Police said they issued compound notices to several food delivery riders this week because they had breached the movement control order.
Cheras district police chief Beh Eng Lai said 12 compound notices were issued to riders on Wednesday and yesterday as they were eating in groups and failed to observe physical distancing.
“We had advised them to observe the SOP but they refused to listen.
“We hoped the public would adhere to the SOP by not gathering in groups and also put on face masks at all times,” he said in response to a statement by Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh.
Yeoh had said yesterday she received complaints from six riders that they were compounded at two different locations while eating at an open field by the side of the road.
She pleaded with the enforcement officers to exercise their discretion in issuing compound notices to these riders, saying “their income is not enough to pay compounds”.
Malaysian Trades Union Congress deputy president Mohd Effendy Abdul Ghani also weighed in on the issue, saying the SOPs in these cases were not very clear.
He said many workplaces did not have cafeterias or pantries for their workers, and they had no proper places to take their meals. - FMT
