After hiccup, HTAR accepts body storage unit from MIC

After an initial hiccup, MIC has managed to donate a container to Klang’s Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) to store the dead.

This followed revelations that the hospital had run out of resources to treat mounting Covid-19 cases as well as space to store dead bodies.

HTAR acknowledged the BN component party’s contribution on its Facebook page today.

“HTAR Klang would like to say a huge thank you to MIC for their support and encouragement in donating a container for bodies to HTAR for managing the Covid-19 pandemic in the Klang district and in Selangor,” it said.

MIC’s donation was initially met with rejection.

Yesterday, a man identified as Mohd Azhar Osman posted a video on his TikTok account claiming that HTAR director Dr Zulkarnain Mohd Rawi had turned down his attempt to donate the container.

Noticeably upset, he said the apparent reason was that the hospital was already scheduled to receive more containers the next day.

“We bought the container for RM35,000 to give to the hospital. We wanted to help the hospital.

"At first, he said okay, but after three hours, the hospital director rejected it and said eight containers are arriving tomorrow.

"Tonight, we came to give them this (container) so that the bodies have a comfortable place to rest," he said in the clip showing the container and HTAR in the background amid pouring rain.

The video was later deleted and Azhar posted a new one saying that the matter had been resolved following intervention by the Health Ministry.

“Finally, our container is allowed to enter (the hospital). We are parking it here.

“I would like to thank the Health Ministry, the ministry’s secretary-general, Health Minister Dr Adham Baba and the hospital director for easing our attempts to help,” he said on his TikTok account.

When contacted, Adham confirmed that the matter had been settled.

While it was not initially clear that the donation was from MIC, HTAR’s acknowledgement this morning revealed that fact after it shared Azhar’s video when thanking the political party for the container.
