Only certain Covid-19 vaccine administration centres (PPV) in the Klang Valley will be open to all comers once the initiative begins in August, said the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).
“The current PPVs will not necessarily be open for the walk-in initiative,” it said in a statement today.
The statement is in response to a message being circulated on instant messaging platforms regarding the walk-in vaccination initiative for everyone in the Klang Valley aged 18 and above.
The viral message also contains a list of PPVs that are mostly located in the Klang Valley, as well as the vaccines purportedly being administered at those PPVs.
The message claimed that anyone in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor above 18 who have yet to be vaccinated can get it done by simply walking into these vaccination centres.
Previously, National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that a special lane will be opened at all PPVs in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor from July 17 onwards to facilitate walk-in vaccinations for those aged 60 years and above.
This is only for those who have yet to receive their Covid-19 vaccine appointments, whereas those who do have an appointment are urged to stick to the time and date they have been allocated.
Walk-in vaccinations will also be available to younger adults in the Klang Valley as part of Operation Surge Capacity to expedite the vaccine rollout in the area.
Under this initiative, all adults in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor who have registered for vaccination will at least get their first dose by Aug 1.
After that, walk-in vaccinations will be opened to all adults in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor to "mop up" the remaining adult population who are not registered or are unrecorded, such as undocumented migrants.
Meanwhile, the CITF reminded that the walk-in initiative is for people without vaccine appointments, particularly those who don’t have valid identification or travel documents, as Khairy had announced before.
“Individuals who have yet to register (for vaccination) but have no impediments to do so are encouraged to register as soon as possible,” it added.
It assured that those who have signed up will be given appointments soon.
