Businessperson donates container to Selayang Hospital

A businessperson today donated a container to the Selayang Hospital to store the bodies of dead Covid-19 patients.

This came after the media reported that the hospital sought help for additional containers after it was not able to keep up with the flood of bodies.

N Thirumurthi, 54, from Shah Alam, said he donated a 40-ft container worth RM34,000 to be used as a mortuary.

"Yesterday, I was told by a few friends that there was a lack of space to store bodies in Selayang Hospital.

"I contacted the Health Ministry secretary-general Mohd Shafiq Abdullah for permission to send over a container. He immediately gave his permission," he told reporters at the hospital.

"This is in appreciation of the frontliners who work hard combating Covid-19," he added.

Selayang Hospital deputy director Dr Tengku Intan Norleen Tengku Sharif expressed her gratitude to the businessperson.

"We hope to see smoother management in the storage of bodies," she said.

Yesterday, Utusan Online quoted an internal source as lamenting the hospital was struggling with a lack of space to keep the bodies and was calling for the donation of containers.

Another businessperson, Jeyenderan Ramasamy, agreed to contribute a container to any hospital that needs it.

"I am ready to contribute a container and I am waiting for the approval of the Health Ministry.

"Once approved, the container will be sent to any hospital that faces a lack of space in the storage of bodies," the 46-year-old said.  - Mkini
