This is really insanely awesome. For about 20 years the Chinese have been running a much smaller mag-lev train from the airport in Shanghai to the city centre. It was like a novelty. The Chinese have actually been learning a lot from their first maglev which was built by Siemens of Germany.
Now the Chinese have rolled out a home grown production model of a 600 km/h maglev that can do the 1,200 km Beijing - Shanghai trip in about 2.0 hours. The maglev will also need the laying of special maglev tracks.
Japan is the only other country that has progressed towards actual roll out of a 600 km/h maglev train but I think it will be a while before a Japanese maglev starts operations.
The Chinese have done it again.
