KEPALA BATAS: A couple was arrested after a 45-minute car chase by police here yesterday.
Seberang Perai Utara district police chief Noorzainy Mohd Noor said a 31-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman in a Proton Wira refused to stop when police ordered them to do so in Permatang Tok Bidan here.
“Police ordered the man to stop the car twice, but he acted aggressively and fled, driving through several traffic lights during the 45-minute chase,” he said.
The chase, which began at about 6.30pm, took police through several areas, including Permatang Buluh, Permatang Sirih, Pajak Song, Jalan Perak, Jalan Maju and Kampung Paya before the couple were arrested in Taman Haji Abdullah Fahim.
Noorzainy said two police MPVs intercepted the couple’s car at the Taman Haji Abdullah Fahim junction; the suspects rammed into the MPVs in their attempt to escape.
He said the couple tested positive for drugs, adding that police did not rule out the possibility that they tried to escape because they were carrying prohibited items.
Investigations revealed that the couple had a criminal record for drug-related offences. - FMT
