Courts, commissioners for oaths allowed, except in EMCO areas

PETALING JAYA: Civil and criminal cases will be allowed to be heard in courts during the ongoing total lockdown except in EMCO areas, said senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

He said the court hearings include tribunal cases.

In a statement, Ismail said the services of commissioners for oaths will also be allowed except in EMCO areas, adding that the commissioners play an important role in the banking and real estate sectors.

“They are also involved in contracts and businesses,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ismail said, EMCOs have also been imposed in more localities in Sabah, Sarawak, Kedah and Penang, all starting from July 4 till July 17.

In Kedah, two workplaces and one workers’ hostel will be placed under EMCO after 471 positive cases were detected.

They are Jimat Jaya Sdn Bhd, Bukit Makmur light industrial area and the workers’ hostel at 1, Jalan Seroja 3/2, Taman Seroja, Sungai Lalang, Kuala Muda.

In Penang, Taman Nagasari, Mukim 6, Seberang Perai Tengah will be placed under EMCO after 118 individuals tested positive.

In Sabah, Kampung Siasai Dundau and Kampung Pantai Emas in Kota Belud, Kampung Naruntung in Pitas and Kampung Iban Kuala Nansang in Tawau, will also be placed under EMCO.

In Sarawak, the Malang anak Bada longhouse in Sungai Bayan, Mukah will be placed under EMCO following 38 positive cases.

Ismail also announced the end of EMCO at a public housing project at Desa Rejang, Kuala Lumpur.

Other areas which will see the EMCO lifted are Putatan, Semarak and Kampung Skim Pamalan in Keningau. All three areas are in Sabah.

Ismail said five factories and 10 premises were also ordered to be shut yesterday for breaching Covid-19 SOPs.

Since June 25, a total of 132,633 business premises, factories and workers’ hostels were checked. Of that number, 726 premises were slapped with compounds and 75 were shut down.

Ismail also said police arrested 636 people for breaching MCO rules yesterday. Of that number, 597 were fined while 39 were remanded.

Among the offences were crossing state borders without permits (182), no physical distancing (116), failure to record personal details or check in with MySejahtera (94) and not wearing face masks (89). - FMT
