‘Frogs’ and ‘scheme of things’ not in Umno’s plans, says Najib

Najib Razak said Muhyiddin Yassin should take responsibility, like many other leaders in the world, and step down.

PETALING JAYA: There is no “scheme of things” or the purchase of “frogs” in Umno’s plans as all the party wants to do is to give power back to the people, says Najib Razak.

In a Facebook post, the former prime minister denied that Umno was power-crazy, saying all it wanted was for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to take responsibility and step down for failing badly in containing the Covid-19 pandemic.

“As the Covid-19 situation and the country’s economy have worsened even after the government was given full emergency powers for seven months followed by a few lockdowns, he should step down,” he said.

He cited examples of all the countries in the world whose leaders had either stepped down or been forced to resign after failing to control the spread of the pandemic.

Instead of doing the most honourable thing, Najib said the government was prioritising to preserve and protect “frogs” as well as traitors by succeeding in the “scheme of things”, adding that this had led to even the King and the Malay Rulers to speak out to try and put things right.

The phrase “scheme of things” is from an audio recording allegedly leaked from a Bersatu supreme council meeting last year in which a man, said to be Muhyiddin, is heard proposing that PPBM shore up its position by joining forces with Umno, to form Malaysia’s largest Malay political party, with offers of positions in government-linked companies made to Umno as an incentive.

Najib said “Umno just wants a new prime minister and a new National Security Council chairman to focus on solving Covid-19 without thinking about how they would retain power or about which frogs can be bought”.

Najib reiterated the need to appoint a temporary government for three to six months. Once the country achieved herd immunity, Parliament should be dissolved for fresh elections.

He said whether Umno or BN would win or not, the main problem now was that this present government had a slim majority in the Dewan Rakyat.

Najib added that this issue should not be dragged on for another two years as it would bring more damage to the country. - FMT
