Malaysians told not to travel interstate during Aidiladha celebration

The public has been reminded to refrain from making inter-district and inter-state travel in conjunction with the Aidiladha celebration next week.

Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases and clusters linked to the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in May should serve as a lesson to all parties.

“Inter-district and inter-state travels in Phase 1 and 2 under the National Recovery Plan are still not allowed, and currently most states are still in Phase 2.

"I hope the people will learn from what happened during Aidilfitri ... even though the inter-state movement was not allowed, there were those who violated (the ruling) causing the cases to escalate," he said.

He said this to reporters after visiting the vaccination centre at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Silver Jubilee Hall in Kuantan, Pahang, today.

Present were Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Pahang state secretary Sallehuddin Ishak and Pahang deputy police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

Ismail, who is also the defence minister, warned the public no to use the rat lanes in their attempt to return to their respective hometowns to celebrate Aidiladha.

"We might escape from the police but not the Covid-19 infection. So, take care of ourselves, exercise self-restraint, do not cross states and districts. If we have achieved herd immunity then we might be able to do so, just be patient,” he said.
