Police questioned 14 more individuals today in connection with last Saturday’s “black flag” vehicle convoy. This brings the total number of people questioned to 28.
The nationwide convoy was held ahead of the #Lawan protest at Dataran Merdeka this Saturday (July 31).
When contacted, lawyer Rajsurian Pillai said each of the 14 was accompanied by legal counsel when questioned at three district police stations - Brickfields, Dang Wangi, and Kajang.
The legal team was led by lawyer Farida Mohammad.
All are being probed under Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
“Those in Dang Wangi were also investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for allegedly asking people to join in the convoy or protest,” Rajsurian said.
None were issued compounds or arrested. Those hauled up included owners of vehicles that participated in the convoy.
Aside from the convoy, Rajsurian said the 11 questioned at Brickfields and Dang Wangi were also asked about this weekend’s protest.
This comes after an earlier round of questioning yesterday.
The convoy and upcoming protest are both organised by a collective known as the Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR).
The organisers previously claimed that the series of black flag convoys, which reportedly involved 100 vehicles nationwide, were met with police intimidation in several areas.
SSR claimed the police disturbed convoys at Quayside Mall in Kuala Langat, Selangor; Manjung in Perak; Pulau Melaka, Bandar Hilir, Limbongan, and Batu Berendam in Malacca; at Cyberjaya, Selangor; and at Kuching, Sarawak. - Mkini
