KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has amended the SOPs for Aidiladha celebrations after the high number of infections in the state today.

State local government and housing minister Masidi Manjun said open houses, banquets and home and cemetery visits are now not allowed.

He said only 15 people would only be allowed to be involved in livestock sacrificial rituals.

Congregations in mosques and suraus for the Aidiladha, Friday and daily prayers would now be reduced to one-third of the capacity or a maximum of 30 people, whichever is lower, he added.

“All celebratory activities involving Aidiladha are also not allowed,” he said in his daily Covid-19 statement today.

“This is to curb the virus from spreading and the rise in infections throughout Sabah.”

Masidi said the state’s high number of 647 positive cases in the past 24 hours was due to the Sabah health department carrying out massive screenings meant to curb community infections.

The bulk of the infections were in the state capital with 312 cases, he said, adding that the Kepayan prison, also known as the Tembok Kota Kinabalu cluster, had 204 cases. - FMT
