Set up PSC to monitor National Recovery Plan: PKR MPs

Three PKR MPs today called for the set up of a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to monitor and review the implementation of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

In a statement, Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil, Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (Hang Tuah Jaya) and Wong Chen (Subang) also urged for the plan to be debated in the next parliamentary session, which is scheduled to start on July 26.

"PKR takes a firm stand that NRP must be presented, debated and decided by MPs in the special session which begins on July 26.

"PKR is also of the view that a Parliamentary Select Committee should be established to monitor and review the implementation of the plan,” they said.

The MPs said that they have conveyed the party's views to the government during a briefing on NRP by Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz this morning.

A PSC is a committee made up of a select group of members of Parliament that are appointed to scrutinise a particular issue or area of concern.

The group said they had during the briefing today presented suggestions from PKR MPs on the recovery plan.

"The plan must be based on these principles: all government policies and actions must be based on scientific medical evidence and data; the government must be fair to all parties; and they must be transparent and responsible in spending the country's funds during this pandemic."

According to the MPs, they had also told the government about several other issues that need to be addressed, including the need to increase funding to hospitals and the public healthcare system, and to publish more detailed data regarding the pandemic. - Mkini
