KOTA KINABALU: A total of 17 people at a nightspot in Waterfront here ended up RM105,000 poorer when city police crashed their party last night.

Those compounded were customers and staff of the outlet including the 41-year-old manager who was fined RM25,000. The rest were issued RM5,000 notices.

The music was still blaring and the customers were consuming alcohol when the authorities visited the outlet, said city police chief Mohd Zaidi Abdullah.

Zaid said that, besides the police, the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and health ministry also issued fines to others found at the location in the 9pm operation.

He said a total of 33 people were found to have violated the health SOPs while the outlet was operating a banned activity.

“It was also found the outlet was using a class-two restaurant licence (eateries with air-conditioners) to operate,” he said.

“This is in violation of its trading conditions as it was carrying out entertainment activities. DBKK has issued a fine for this.”

Meanwhile, DBKK and the health department issued six and 10 compounds respectively. - FMT
