The Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) said that as of 3.40pm, a total of 25 locations around Johor Bahru were affected by the flash floods which were caused by heavy rain and high tide.

In a Facebook post, it said its flash flood response team was deployed to ensure that water channels were functioning properly after receiving reports about rising floodwaters at around 2pm.

When contacted by FMT, state youth, sports, entrepreneur development, cooperatives and human resources committee chairman Hairi Mad Shah said that among the 25 affected areas were Dataran Bandaraya Johor Bahru, Jalan Air Kolam, Jalan Ayer Molek, Jalan Bilal Mahmood, Jalan Dato Sulaiman, Jalan Ibrahim Sultan, Jalan Ismail Sultan, Jalan Lurah 3, Jalan Mahmoodiah and Jalan Mohd Amin.

Other affected areas include Jalan Padi Makmur, Jalan Serigala, Jalan Stulang Darat, Jalan Tebrau, Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Jalan Tun Abdul Razak (Susur 2), Jalan Tun Abdul Razak (Susur 3) and Jalan Yahya Awal.

Last month, Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the state government had identified 874 flood hotspots in the state.
