PETALING JAYA: Federal Territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa wants strict action against parking touts operating in Kuala Lumpur.
She said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had been instructed to step up patrols and surveillance to tackle this nuisance, Bernama reported.
Zaliha said these touts were causing concern among residents and visitors and such illegal activities should not be allowed.
She said stern action must be taken against those involved.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) today, Zaliha said she had received many complaints about parking touts in Kuala Lumpur over the past few days.
Earlier, an individual had uploaded a video showing scratches on her car door, believed to have been caused by a tout after she refused to pay a RM15 fee.
According to her, the incident occurred four days ago at the car park near Maybank in Bukit Bintang.
Those found scratching cars may be charged under Section 426 of the Penal Code for committing mischief, which provides for up to five years in prison or a fine or both upon conviction.
On Wednesday, an unemployed man was fined RM3,000 by the magistrates’ court here for using a screwdriver to scratch a Toyota Alphard, causing damage amounting to RM8,000, at a car park in Kota Damansara. - FMT
