Nazir Razak appointed Pahang Economic Advisory Council chairman

The advisory council led by former CIMB Group chairman Nazir Razak would operate for a two-year period.

PETALING JAYA: Former CIMB Group chairman Nazir Razak has been appointed the chairman of the Pahang Economic Advisory Council (MPEN).

Pahang menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the advisory council led by Nazir, having effectively started on Dec 1, would operate for a two-year period.

The nine others on the council comprise two state executive councillors, two senior state government officials, and five other unnamed members.

“MPEN was established to enable the state government to integrate its members’ experience and expertise from both the private and government sectors to expedite sustainable state economic development.

“Its function is to plan and formulate the Pahang State Economic Master Plan for a five-year period,” Wan Rosdy said in a Facebook post.

He said that MPEN would be responsible for giving the state government strategic advice in terms of economic development opportunities and tackling challenges.

Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah was also appointed as the council’s secretariat.

Nazir is the brother of former prime minister Najib Razak. He was the CIMB Group chairman from 2014 to 2018.

Before that, he was the CEO of CIMB from 1999. - FMT
