Samsuri has what it takes to be prime minister - Dr M

KEMAMAN POLLS | Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad says Perikatan Nasional’s candidate for the Kemaman parliamentary seat is qualified to become a prime minister in the future.

According to him, Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has proven his capabilities in administering the state effectively.

On the other hand, Mahathir alleged that the current federal government is engaging in corruption by bribing MPs to gain their support.

“If we choose their candidate, it means we allow the government to openly engage in corruption by using government funds to secure support.

“That's why in this by-election, we need to show that they will not get support from the people of Kemaman.

“In Kemaman, we have a candidate who is truly qualified to be the prime minister,” he said during a speech at PN’s grand finale ceramah in Dataran Astaka, Chukai, tonight, ahead of polling day tomorrow.

His remarks appear to be in response to five Bersatu MPs who recently declared their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, thus urging Kemaman voters to support Samsuri.

Also present at the event were PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, and Bersatu vice-president Radzi Jidin. More than 1,500 PN supporters attended the event.

Meanwhile, Mahathir also claimed Anwar’s government is incapable of dealing with many problems faced by the people.

“They cannot reduce the cost of living, causing many people to suffer and not have food because of rising prices, and they have no income at all.

“Now they are proposing subsidies supposedly to be given only to certain people who will be eligible. Trust me, only those who support them will receive it,” he said.

Samsuri and his pantun

Samsuri, who is also a vice-president of PAS, is in a straight fight against BN candidate Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor to determine whether the Kemaman parliamentary seat remains under PAS in tomorrow's polling day.

In his final campaign appearance, Samsuri opted to deliver a Malay pantun (poem) instead of a speech.

PN’s candidate Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar

“Tonight, I have no intention of giving a speech. I just want to present a pantun to everyone, especially the Kemaman voters,” he said, before delivering his poem.

In his poem, he praised the beauty of Kemaman, the kindness of its people, and its rich history, as well as urging them to vote for PAS:

Mana dia orang Kemaman,

cuba angkat tangan,

orangnya manis baik budiman,

sejarah hebat jadi kenangan.

Indah sungguh daerah Kemaman,

pelancong datang suka berjalan,

insya-Allah dalam PRK Kemaman,

kita pakat pangkah bulan.

Bandar Chukai semakin indah,

daerahnya hebat dan terkenal,

Terengganu lening comel dah,

di bawah PAS Perikatan Nasional.

Lemang Kijal hebat dipantau,

berbaris gerai di tepi jalan,

wahai anak-anak perantau,

ayuh pulang undi bulan.

DUN Air Putih bersuara lantang,

hebat sungguh perjuangan lepas,

biar bercurah habuan datang,

namun tetap undi PAS.

Pantai Kemasik sangat indah,

Kampung nelayan baiknya budi,

Ucapan saya sekianlah sudah,

Insya-Allah esok PAS kita undi.

Mari Kemaman makan roti payang,

tuan-puan di Kemaman saya sayang.

Samsuri then escorted Mahathir to leave the programme early. Hadi is expected to deliver the final speech. - Mkini
