PAS fails to control quality of leaders and MBs, claims Perlis delegate

PAS MUKTAMAR | A PAS delegate ticked off the party for allegedly failing to control the quality of its leaders and menteri besar.

Mohd Saifizi Saidon of Perlis chapter said the absence of a leadership guidance manual has led to failure in managing the party's victory in four states in accordance with PAS principles and morality.

This has caused some leaders to act like dictators by sidelining party stakeholders' views in their administration, he claimed.

"Perlis has gone through a victory phase without clear guidance, despite PAS now controlling four states.

"We have failed to come up with a manual that can be used as a reference for all, causing each state to be unable to manage its victory properly.

"Worse, an administration that should have been based on the concept of 'musyawarah' and discussion has turned to be dictatorial by denying the rights of its stakeholders who contributed towards the party's victory," Saifizi (above)said in debating the party president's speech at PAS' 70th muktamar in Temerloh, Pahang today

The delegate further claimed that a certain menteri besar had been absent from state meetings, which he said should be a platform to guide the state in its administration.

Some leaders even regarded the concept of party-steered government as a concept that is no longer relevant, he claimed.

"They (the leaders) described this as a bad concept, using it as an excuse for them to rule arbitrarily.

"Is this an effort to reject PAS' ulama leadership concept that we have fought all these years?"

Be strict in enforcing discipline

In his speech, Saifizi also took a swipe at the party's top leadership for allegedly letting slide morality issues involving certain senior leaders.

According to the delegate, PAS used to be strict in enforcing its discipline, such as in the case of former Parit MP Hashim Gera who was sacked from the party in 1972 for dancing.

"But today, we can see some leaders (indulged in) karaoke singing and his behaviour was defended by PAS ulama.

"Even sadder, there have been incidents where a (male) PAS leader shook hands with women with impunity. This happened not once but many times," he said.

It is believed that Saifizi was referring to Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor on the karaoke issue.

Saifizi also claimed no discussion was held on the recent MACC investigation against Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and his son.

"Where has our persistence gone to uphold the traits of integrity that Prophet Muhammad taught?" he asked.

Therefore, he said the Perlis PAS chapter called for the party to return to its ulama leadership concept based on Islamic values.
