PETALING JAYA: After having had five people serve as state secretary in two years, Perlis menteri besar Shukri Ramli has asked for federal help to ensure a longer term for the new person in the post.
He said in Kangar that the Perlis government has requested that the term of service for the new state secretary be extended, to ensure that development planning can be implemented more effectively.
Shukri said he had expressed this request to deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof yesterday, and the latter had agreed to raise the matter with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Bernama reported.
Shukri spoke to reporters after the opening of the state-level sports day by Fadillah.
The new state secretary, Rahimi Ismail, reported for duty yesterday, replacing Che Murad Sayang Ramjan, who will become the director-general of social welfare based in Putrajaya. Che Murad was appointed Perlis state secretary on July 3.
Since Shukri took office as menteri besar in November 2022, Perlis has had five state secretaries. - FMT
