UPNM student claims trial to assaulting junior

KUALA LUMPUR: 

A National Defence University (UPNM) student pleaded not guilty at the magistrates’ court today to assaulting his junior by stomping on his stomach.

Adil Mat Awang Ghani was slapped with the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt to Haziq Iqbal Ahmad Rashidi.

He was alleged to have stepped on Haziq while wearing spike-soled boots at the UPNM training field on Oct 21.

If found guilty, he could be jailed up to a year, fined, or both.

Magistrate Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim granted Adil bail of RM5,000 with one surety.

She also ordered him not to harass potential witnesses such as the victim, fellow classmates, and UPNM officers who would testify later.

The court fixed Feb 10, 2025 for mention.

Lawyer Nurul Diyana Basher from the National Legal Aid Foundation appeared for Adil while deputy public prosecutor Sabri Othman appeared for the prosecution. - FMT
