KUALA LUMPUR
The Public Accounts Committee will hold an inquiry next Monday into the repeated extensions of time provided to the Bayan Baru regional sewage treatment plant (Phase 2) project which has been delayed by more than six years.

PAC chairman Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the PAC will summon officials from the energy transition and water transformation ministry, the sewerage services department (JPP), the project consultant and the contractor.

This follows a PAC site visit to the project, which costs over RM256 million, on Friday.

“The purpose of the working visit was to look into the problems faced by the project, as part of the PAC’s proceedings over the national water management, and to provide a clearer picture of the issues contributing to the delays,” Mas Ermieyati said in a statement.

She said 11 PAC members took part in the working visit, along with the ministry’s deputy secretary-general (water) Rozuan Baba Sakri, JPP director-general Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Abdullah, Indah Water Konsortium’s planning and engineering department head, Taufik Salleh, and the project contractor.

Mas Ermieyati also said the PAC held four proceedings from July to October and conducted working visits to Sandakan and Tawau in Sabah on Oct 29 and Nov 1.

During those visits, the members reviewed two projects – the Sandakan water supply system upgrade and the Tawau water supply scheme (Phase 3).

“The proceedings for both projects were held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, with witnesses from the ministry and the Sabah state water department,” she said. - FMT
