Don’t speculate on MACC probe into BAM, says Hannah

PETALING JAYA
Youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh has called on the public to refrain from speculating on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation into the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

Yeoh said such probes were standard procedure when a complaint is lodged with the anti-graft agency, adding that it was not confined to sports associations.

“Every time you have an anonymous complaint, the investigating body will come in. Until the investigation has been completed, it’s premature to even comment about it,” she said in a Bernama report.

“Let’s not speculate. Let’s be fair to BAM and wait for the outcome of the MACC investigation.

“BAM is one of the better-managed sports associations, (and) it has been around for a long time. I definitely feel MACC will find that all their (BAM’s) documents are in order.”

She was speaking to the media after an event in Kuala Lumpur to support children with cerebral palsy.

In a brief statement this morning, BAM confirmed that MACC officers had gone to its headquarters last week “to request certain information”.

“BAM extended its full cooperation during the visit, and the officers carried out their duties in a professional manner,” it said.

It was previously reported that BAM’s acting president V Subramaniam and secretary-general Kenny Goh might be summoned by MACC to give their statements.

FMT has reached out to MACC for more details on the case. - FMT
