Fadhlina: No need to cap PIBG contributions

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry (MOE) sees no need to set a maximum limit on contributions collected by Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG).

Its minister, Fadhlina Sidek, said this was because all contribution rates were determined and agreed upon by PIBG members.

"MOE remains committed to ensuring that pupils enjoy the best facilities in schools to guarantee effective teaching and learning. The establishment of PIBG plays an important role in this effort, particularly through the various forms of support it provides to schools.

"PIBGs are established under the Education (Parent-Teacher Associations) Regulations 1998, made pursuant to the Education Act 1996. A PIBG comprises all teachers and parents of pupils in the school, with the headmaster or principal serving as the association's adviser.

"PIBGs are allowed to collect contributions at rates proposed and approved by their members during the Annual General Meeting, and these must be reported to the Registrar," she said in reply to a question from Roslan Hashim (PN–Kulim Bandar Baharu).

Fadhlina said the contributions collected would be used to improve pupils' needs and upgrade school facilities.

"In view of this, there is currently no need to set any specific rate as a maximum limit for PIBG contributions," she said. - NST
