ALOR STAR: The Kedah Education Department has removed two teachers from their respective schools following allegations of sexual misconduct that recently surfaced on social media.
The department said it takes the allegations seriously and confirmed that the two cases, which are unrelated, are currently under investigation. Both teachers have been suspended from schools under the Education Ministry pending the outcome of the inquiries.
"The department will not compromise on any form of sexual misconduct and will continue to ensure that the safety and well-being of students, teachers and the entire school community remain a priority," it said in a statement today.
The response follows a widely shared social media post by former Mathematics teacher Mohd Fadli Salleh, who raised concerns over student safety after alleging inappropriate communications between a male teacher and a 15-year-old female student at a school in the state.
Fadli said that screenshots of the conversation showed the exchange initially began as expressions of concern before escalating into sexually suggestive messages, including requests to meet privately and for the student to address the teacher using endearing terms.
He alleged that the student was subjected to sexual grooming by the teacher, and that a police report has been lodged alongside a formal complaint filed through the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA).
At the same time, Fadli highlighted a separate case in the same district involving another male teacher accused of repeatedly making obscene remarks during lessons.
Fadli said a student who reported the matter to the school principal allegedly did not receive appropriate attention, prompting the complaint to be escalated to another teacher.
He further said that although the matter was subsequently reported to the District Education Office, the teacher who lodged the report was transferred to another school for allegedly acting beyond the principal's authority, despite the move being intended to protect students. - NST
