KAJANG: Two children, aged 12 and 14 are missing after being swept away by strong currents in a drain while trying to retrieve a ball in Taman Prima Saujana.

In a statement, the Fire and Rescue Department said it received a call at 6.32pm, and firefighters from the Kajang station arrived at the scene seven minutes later, about 5km from the station.

The search operation, led by Operation Commander Abdul Naseer Abd Rahim, is ongoing.

Six personnel are currently scouring the main drainage area.

The drain is believed to have swollen due to heavy rain earlier in the afternoon.

The Fire and Rescue Department has urged the public to exercise caution near drains and other water bodies, particularly during heavy rainfall or after storms. - NST
