Get to bottom of fatal shooting without delay, Rayer tells Kula

DAP lawmaker RSN Rayer has urged Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) M Kulasegaran to sink his fangs into the allegation that the police conducted an extra-judicial killing of three suspected robbers in Malacca.

The Jelutong MP pressed his party colleague “to get to the bottom of this case without delay”.

“This matter involves the use of lethal force resulting in three deaths and must be treated with the highest level of seriousness,” he said in a Facebook post.

Rayer also called on Kulasegaran to ensure that a coroner conducts a full inquest into the deaths of the three men, in accordance with the law. He said that an inquest is necessary to independently determine the cause and circumstances of death.

“The families of the deceased and the public have an absolute right to know the truth of what actually happened, how it happened, and whether the use of force was justified,” he added.

Rayer further demanded that Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail place the officers involved in the incident on garden leave pending the outcome of the inquest.

“This is critical to safeguard the integrity of the investigation and to maintain public confidence in the police force,” he said.

‘Justice must be seen to be done’

He also called on the government to immediately commission all police officers to wear body cameras during operations, emphasising that this is no longer optional.

“It is now a necessity to protect both the public and law-abiding officers, ensure transparency, and prevent future disputes over facts.

“This call is not to condemn the entire police force. It is to uphold the rule of law, guarantee justice for the families, and preserve public trust in our institutions.

“The people of Malaysia deserve answers. The families deserve justice. And justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done,” he added.

Yesterday, the wife of one of the three suspected robbers revealed an audio recording which purportedly punched holes into the official version that they attacked and wounded a police officer.
