PKR Youth and Albert Tei’s lawyer clash over corruption stance in Sabah scandal

A HEATED exchange has erupted between PKR Youth information chief Danish Hairudin and lawyer Mahajoth Singh, representing businessperson-turned-whistleblower Albert Tei, over handling of corruption allegations linked to the Sabah mining scandal.

Danish Hairudin rejected claims that PKR Youth has remained silent on graft involving politicians, describing such narratives as lazy and malicious.

He maintained the wing’s consistent position that all allegations must be reported to the MACC for independent investigation and decided by courts, without drama or sympathy.

“Full stop. No need for drama, no need for a sympathetic script and the process is underway,” Danish said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Mahajoth Singh yesterday questioned why PKR Youth targets Tei aggressively while staying quiet on implicated politicians, suggesting the attacks aim to protect political superiors rather than uphold integrity.

He defended Tei’s right to plead not guilty as fundamental, comparing it favourably to past procedural choices by leaders.

He also went on to accuse Danish of rushing to defend PKR president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the matter.

“Why the sudden courage only when the target is a whistleblower? One cannot escape the impression that these attacks are less about integrity and more about protecting political superiors. Defending one’s boss is easy. Defending the rule of law requires courage,” Mahajoth said.

The dispute centres on Tei’s bribery trial alongside Malacca PKR chief Shamsul Iskandar Akin, stemming from Tei’s exposures of alleged payments for mining licences. — Focus Malaysia
