The police have reclassified the case involving a corporal’s assault on a fellow soldier Amirul Raziq Rosafindi at a military camp in Bentong, Pahang, to murder following the victim’s death this morning.
In a statement, Bentong police chief Zaiham Kahar said following confirmation of the 24-year-old victim’s death, the investigation has been re-classified from Section 325 to Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Zaiham added that an application for an autopsy has been filed, with the police to review previous statements and record new ones from witnesses if necessary.
In a separate statement, the army affirmed that Amirul’s remains will undergo an autopsy as part of the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital’s medical procedures.
Amirul is then expected to be brought back to Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, for burial at the Felda Sungai Kelamah cemetery.
Earlier today, Amirul’s father, Rosafindi Tambi Chik, confirmed that his son died at a hospital in Temerloh at 9.45am, 12 days after the alleged assault.
Suspect pleads not guilty
On April 6, Sukry Tasu, 37, pleaded not guilty to seven charges of assaulting fellow personnel last month, with the first charge framed under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt to Amirul.
The alleged assault is said to have occurred at the armoury store of Company C for the 25th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment Camp in Bentong at 8.30am on March 30.
The section carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years and a fine.

Bentong magistrate Aiman Azahan set bail at RM7,000 for the first charge, imposed an additional condition restraining the accused from approaching or contacting the victim until the case is disposed of, and fixed May 18 for document submission.
On the remaining charges, Sukry was accused of injuring six others - Atiqillah Taugek Rashidi (21), Syakirin Yaacob (20), Azman Shah Ismail (22), Nik Amir Zaqwan Nik Asrizal (19), Irfan Aiman Mohd Tajudin (19), and Danial Asraf Azizan (22) – at the same location and on the same day.
The six charges were framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year's imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
The court set bail at RM2,000 per charge and ordered the accused not to approach or contact the victims until the case is concluded.
‘Punched, kicked’
Zaiham said then that initial investigations found that the suspect had allegedly beaten, punched, and kicked the victim on several parts of his body while six other victims were present during the incident.
The victim, who is said to have collapsed during the assault, was later taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Rosafindi previously told the New Straits Times that Amirul suffered brain damage as a result of oxygen deprivation resulting from prolonged cardiac arrest.
He added that while CT scans found no internal injuries, his son's heart had swollen, believed to be due to prolonged CPR. - Mkini
