
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening long-standing bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he and his Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif discussed regional developments and ways to further enhance cooperation between the two countries.
"During a phone call with my counterpart from Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, we discussed various regional developments and efforts to strengthen the long-standing Malaysia-Pakistan bilateral relations.
"We also touched on positive developments in negotiations between Iran and the United States, including discussions on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz," he said in a Facebook post.
He said Malaysia appreciates Pakistan's role in ongoing mediation efforts and its readiness to host future negotiations, while reiterating Putrajaya's firm stance that disputes should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
He said they also discussed the need for the international community to take firm action to stop violence against civilians in Gaza and Lebanon.
Anwar said Malaysia-Pakistan relations would continue to be strengthened based on friendship, mutual respect and a shared commitment to global peace and prosperity.
During the phone call, he also conveyed Aidiladha greetings to Sharif and the people of Pakistan. - NST
