KUALA LUMPUR: Five passengers were injured after a glass panel in a train along the Kelana Jaya Line shattered near the Dang Wangi station today.
In the 6.07pm incident, two of the passengers were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for further treatment, while the rest received medical aid at the location.
Rapid KL said the incident occurred when the train's automatic safety system was activated while the train was exiting the station, which caused it to suddenly stop as part of its operational control measures.
It said the system's activation was one of the train's existing safety features, designed to ensure that any unexpected situations are managed swiftly.
"Due to the sudden stop, a passenger who was standing lost his balance. The passenger's water bottle then hit a glass panel next to the seat.
"The impact shattered the glass panel and its fragments hit several passengers nearby," it said in a statement tonight.
The company said the other passengers were uninjured and were subsequently dropped off at the Damai station to continue their journey with the following train.
Rapid KL said that as a precautionary measure and in line with its standard operating procedures, the train has been removed from service to facilitate a comprehensive technical inspection.
It said that operations along the Kelana Jaya line operated as usual throughout the incident.
"However, an alignment of the train frequency was conducted at several locations while the train in question was removed from service.
"Rapid KL has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident and will continue to prioritise passengers' safety and comfort," it said.
It advised passengers to always hold the handrail and to be in a stable position throughout their journey, especially when the train is moving or approaching a station.
Passengers, it said, are also advised to seek any information and the latest developments on services via Rapid KL's social media channels or the myRapid PULSE app. - FMT
