Political activist Hisyamuddin Ghazali, better known as Syam Ghaz, has been appointed the new director-general of the Community Communications Department (J-Kom), effective today.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced the appointment of Hisyamuddin, who was Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s special duties officer, during the Communications Ministry’s monthly assembly this morning.
Hisyamuddin replaces Ismail Yusop, whose tenure at the agency ended after more than a year in the post, making him the fourth person to head J-Kom since the Madani government took office.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ismail, who has been called upon by the Prime Minister’s Office to take on a new responsibility.
“Welcome to Hisyamuddin, who has been chosen to lead J-Kom,” Fahmi said.
A political activist from Kelantan, Hisyamuddin first became active during the Pakatan Rakyat era, when the state was led by the late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

He later joined Amanah in 2015 and contested the Apam Putra state seat in the 2018 general election.
Ahead of the 2022 general election, he joined PKR and contested the Kuala Krai parliamentary seat.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that Ismail, better known as Tok Abah, had confirmed his departure from J-kom after being assigned a new role by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Ismail was appointed J-Kom director-general in January last year, replacing Khairuddin Othman.
Khairuddin, who is also Selangor PKR secretary, assumed the post on March 1, 2023, replacing Agus Yusof, the first J-Kom chief appointed under the Madani administration. - Mkini
