KUALA LUMPUR: Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (Akleh) is ready to implement the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag to pay toll by early next year.
Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) Group chief executive officer Mohammad Azlan Abdullah said that Akleh had conducted testing on the implementation of RFID on specific vehicles, such as police cars.
“We are positive that by early 2018, we can implement the RFID along Akleh and subsequently on five other highways that we operate.
“This is because we fully support the move towards implementing a total electronic payment system in easing traffic flow,” he said during the company’s visit to Bernama headquarters here today.
The RFID-based system is a barcode scanner which scans a “tag” through electromagnetic waves with a frequency of between 850 and 950 megahertz (MHz), and is able to reach a range of 27 metres with a 10-millisecond response time.
Prolintas, which is wholly owned by Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), operates Akleh and five other highways.
These are the Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), Kemuning–Shah Alam Highway (LKSA), Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK) and the upcoming Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) and Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH). -FMT
