Clerk demands justice after dog rescued, then killed by authorities

Lily Devan says MDKP rescued her dog from a drain only to kill it by lethal injection immediately after.
dog-abusePETALING JAYA: A clerk has hit out at local council members in Negeri Sembilan who reportedly killed her pet dog after she called them to help rescue it from a drain.
Lily Devan, who works at the Negeri Sembilan Matriculation College, said her mother had informed her of her pet’s plight while she was away in Johor Baru.
The 11-month-old dog, named “Baby”, was said to have been stuck in the drain for five days.
“My mother suggested that I call the fire department, so I called them and asked them for help,” Lily said in a Facebook post.
According to her, personnel from the fire department came over but were unable to rescue her dog.
She said they had tried to catch the dog but could not as he was afraid and kept running away from them.
After numerous failed attempts, they suggested that she call the Kuala Pilah District Council (MDKP) for assistance.
Lily said MDKP had responded to her call, coming over and successfully rescuing her dog from the drain.
However, the MDKP personnel then took the dog to an enclosed area nearby.
dog-abuse1Lily said her sister, who was watching this happen, had protested, saying: “You know that this is my dog, so why are you not letting him go and giving him back to me?”
However, they allegedly ignored her queries.
“MDKP refused to answer. They just put the rope around my dog and injected him, even though my sister shouted that the dog belonged to her.
“I also made it in time and told them to stop what they were doing, but they just continued injecting my dog,” she said, adding that she had a licence for Baby, but had lost it.
Lily said representatives from MDKP had since spoken with her and apologised in person. However, she remains unsatisfied with their response.
“I don’t want any money from them. I just need justice for my dog.”
She also called on MDKP to change its standard operating procedure (SOP) from killing dogs by lethal injection to another option, and for the council to take action against the employee who had killed her dog.
A member of the council who did not wish to be named said police were investigating the case and could not reveal any further details yet. -FMT
