Preacher Wan Ji Wan Husin, who is attached to the Penang Chief Minister's Office, has been arrested after delivering a sermon in Seberang Perai, Penang today.
According to Star Online, Penang police chief Chuah Ghee Lye said that Wan Ji is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1954.
The report also claimed that a police report against Wan Ji was lodged in Kuala Lumpur recently.
Meanwhile, Penang chief minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the exact reasons behind Wan Ji's arrest are still unknown.
"We will issue a statement later when the lawyers have a clearer picture," said Saifuddin in a statement today.
Wan Ji, who is the PKR Youth religious bureau chief, was appointed as Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's information officer on Sept 28.
According to PKR member Mohd Edy Jab, who witnessed the arrest, said the arresting party claimed that the preacher was arrested under the Sedition Act, but did not provide details.
"Some of the police personnel said they were from Kuala Lumpur. It seems that he would be brought to Bukit Aman," said Mohd Edy when contacted.- Mkini
