Cops arrest Zamihan following religious lecture on laundrette

Police have arrested preacher Zamihan Mat Zin following his religious lecture criticising Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar's stance against a Muslim-only laundrette in Johor.

When contacted, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd confirmed the arrest to Malaysiakini.

Najmuddin said Zamihan was arrested at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at 3.50pm.

"He is being investigated under the Sedition Act and read together with the Communications and Multimedia Act," he said.

Najmuddin said Zamihan will be remanded at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex tomorrow.

Zamihan had during a religious lecture pointed out that that the sultans in the country were Muslims but yet Muslim-only laundrettes are not allowed.

He lamented that attempts to provide such Muslim-only service were instead met with labels of "Taliban".

Zamihan appeared to be referring to Sultan Ibrahim, who last month criticised the laundrette, stating that Johor was "no Taliban state," and that the company’s policy was "totally unacceptable and extremist in nature."

“I cannot accept this nonsense. This is Johor, which belongs to Bangsa Johor and it belongs to all races and faiths.

"This is a progressive, modern and moderate state," he had said.

Zamihan earlier today defended his statement, stating that he did not specifically name Sultan Ibrahim.- Mkini
