KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club chairman Abdul Rahim Ismail says Warisan president Shafie Apdal must not hide behind parliamentary immunity in attacking Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman.
“If Shafie Apdal wants to talk about Musa Aman, why can’t he do so without the protection of parliament immunity,” Rahim said in a statement.
He added that the allegations made by Shafie were baseless and malicious.
“All these allegations are in fact nothing but recycled news. All the allegations are fake and designed to mislead the public for his self-interest and malevolent intention,” Rahim said, adding that Shafie was abusing the parliamentary previlege given to all MPs.
He also questioned Shafie for not making the allegations before he was arrested last Thursday by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“Shafie is not a steady politician and does not have what it takes to be a leader. Leaders are supposed to be cool. This kind of behaviour is juvenile. Just because he is in hot water now, he wants to drag other people down.
“If Shafie wants, he is welcome to make a report to the MACC instead of abusing parliamentary privilege,” Rahim said.
The Pantai Manis assemblyman also reminded Shafie that Musa was already a successful businessman before he entered politics.
Meanwhile, referring to the issue of Shafie’s ill health following his recent arrest, Rahim said he was baffled by the former rural and regional development minister’s sudden deteriorating health condition when in the past, he had not been known to have any such problems.
“I think all these health problems are just his attempt to gain sympathy from the people. He should not use the people’s emotions to get support,” he said. -FMT
