The organisers of the "German F&B Festival" are awaiting advice from the authorities before deciding on whether or not to proceed with the event on Oct 12 and 13.
"The Centro Mall management is waiting for advice from the authorities," a mall management spokesperson told Malaysiakini when contacted, adding that a meeting will be held regarding the event.
The organisers had initially obtained permission to conduct the festival from both the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and the North Klang district police, but the police later banned the event, saying the approval letter was fake.
"We will not give approval, as per the instructions given by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi recently, for police to ensure that there are no alcohol festivals organised," district police chief ACP Mazelan Paijan was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Selangor exco member Teng Chang Khim, however, said yesterday that the festival will proceed as the organisers have a temporary permit from MPK, that had included 20 conditions and an RM400 fee.
Inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun had also said that the power to pull the plug on the festival, was with the local council and not the police.
Selangor PAS had objected against the event, claiming it would be an "alcohol festival", despite the fact that it had taken place at Centro Mall, every October in the past few years, without incident.- Mkini
