Amanah president Mohamad Sabu told the residents of the kampung in Penanti, Penang, last night that the claim that DAP intends to install a Christian state in Malaysia is physically impossible.
In a ceramah dubbed "Love Malaysia, Eradicate Kleptocracy", Mohamad, affectionately known as Mat Sabu, said these lies are propagated not only by Umno, but by some ustaz, including former Amanah comrades.
“Do you think it is easy to establish a Christian state in Malaysia?” asked Mat Sabu.
First and foremost, he said, DAP would need a two-thirds majority to amend the federal constitution to turn Malaysia into a Christian state.
The federal constitution states Islam is the official religion of the federation, while at the same time, those of other religions are free to practise their respective faiths.
“What about the Malay rulers? Their support is needed to amend the constitution for such a matter.
“Can DAP get a two thirds majority in Parliament? Let’s say they manage to do it, but do you think the Malay rulers would agree to such a proposal?” he asked, and the crowd responded “No!”.
“If all these cannot be done, then why do you still believe such lies by those quarters?
"Why do you go and listen to these ustaz saying these things?” he asked, drawing laughter from the crowd.
Also present at the event, which was also held in solidarity with jailed PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and Batu MP Tian Chua, were Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Last month, PAS Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi warned a vote for Pakatan Harapan would ultimately be a vote for DAP.
He claimed DAP is being shadowed by the Christian evangelist agenda, which allegedly has the ambition to establish a secular state, echoing anti-DAP propaganda that DAP's aim is to turn Malaysia into a Christian state.-Mkini
