Jho Low committed 4 offences locally over 1MDB, says ex-judge

Gopal Sri Ram says the businessman can be prosecuted for CBT, conspiracy to commit CBT, abetment of CBT and cheating.
Gopal-Sri-RamPETALING JAYA: Low Taek Jho, who is linked to state investor 1MDB, committed at least four offences under the Malaysian Penal Code, a retired judge said.
“On meagre facts available from documents in the public domain, it is clear he has committed at least four offences,” said Gopal Sri Ram.
He said Jho Low had committed criminal breach of trust of the property over which he was entrusted with dominion.
Secondly, he said Jho Low could be prosecuted for cheating.
“He can also face charges for conspiracy to commit criminal breach of trust and abetment of criminal breach of trust.
“The police are perfectly entitled to hunt him down as a fugitive from justice,” he said.
He said this in response to Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz who yesterday said the public prosecutor could only take action against the businessman, better known as Jho Low, if he had committed offences under the country’s law.
“So I also want to know what offence he committed in Malaysia,” said the former law minister when asked for comments on the government’s stand that there was no case to be pursued against Low in Malaysia.
“All these offences, if there are, are committed overseas. So let the overseas governments and their authorities take actions against him (Jho Low).”
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had also questioned why the whole world knew about Jho Low and his alleged offences but Malaysia seemed ignorant.
Low, whose whereabouts were unknown, had denied he played any significant role in 1MDB which allegedly lost billions of ringgit to embezzlement by certain individuals. -FMT
