Lawmaker: 'Panadol budget' only for short-term relief

Chukai state assemblyperson Hanafiah Mat said the lost list of cash handouts outlined in Budget 2018 will not resolve longstanding cost of living issues.
He likened the Budget 2018 to "Panadol ActiFast," a popular over-the-counter painkiller, because short-term pain relief is not adequate treatment.
"The village chiefs are given money, but the people who are facing cost of living issues. Oil prices go up all the time.
"The bonus payouts to civil servants are like bright lipstick - it washes away with water," Hanafiah was quoted as saying in Harakah Daily.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's tabled the most expensive budget in Malaysian history yesterday, which many of his cabinet colleagues admitted was meant to help draw support for BN ahead of the general election.
Among others, the beefier budget increased the cash handouts to village chiefs (RM1,500), mosque officials (RM1,500), civil servants (RM1,500), former civil servants (RM750), senior citizens (RM350), and disabled people (RM100).- Mkini
