LIGHTNING STRIKE, WW2 BOMB OR TERROR ATTACK? CONFUSION OVER EXPLOSION AT NAJIB’S PRIZED 1MDB-LINKED BANDAR MALAYSIA CONSTRUCTION SITE SPARKS RUMORS

KUALA LUMPUR – A lightning strike left three people badly injured at a construction site in Bandar Malaysia this evening.

The incident, which is followed by an explosion, is believed to have occurred at an under-construction MRT station nearby.

Those injured were believed to be Bangladeshi construction workers.

Initial reports suggest that the three had their legs severed in the accident. This was confirmed by a spokesman for the City Fire and Rescue Department.

The full extent of their injuries however are unknown as at press time.

Meanwhile, MMC-Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd (MGKT) in a statement confirmed that three Bangladeshi workers were seriously injured in the incident.

The company said the three general workers were carrying out housekeeping works outside the immediate work area in the 5pm incident.

The cause, it said is still “unknown” and investigation is on-going.

“The Fire and Rescue Department and police have been informed whilst the victims have been hospitalised for treatment.

“The workers are seeking treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital and reported to be in stable condition,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ruslan Khalid said police are still investigating the cause of the explosion.

“Based on the initial investigation we have ruled out foul play, it was a workplace accident,” he said when contacted.

Bandar Malaysia South is one of the 11 Underground stations under the Sungai Buloh-Serdang- Putrajaya Line (SSP) and MGKT is the Underground Work Package Contractor.

Explosion at MRT construction site caused by old bomb, police say

Police confirmed the explosion at the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station construction site in Bandar Malaysia this evening was from an old unexploded bomb from the Second World War.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh confirmed the matter when contacted here yesterday night.

“From initial investigations, an old bomb from the Second World War suddenly exploded when construction works were being carried out,” he said.

In the incident at about 5pm, three Bangladeshi workers were seriously injured and two of them lost their legs while another suffered injuries on the hands and legs.

The three victims were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, a Fire and Rescue Department source said the department received a call at 5.23pm and arrived at the location about 10 minutes later.

He said 25 officers and personnel with five fire engines from Hang Tuah, Pudu and Tun Razak stations rushed to the site. – Bernama
