KUALA LUMPUR: A man was sentenced to a month’s jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for slapping his wife and twisting her arm over a child custody disagreement two weeks ago.
Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid sentenced Saiful Putra Nurham, 35, after the accused pleaded guilty to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt to his wife, Nor Zura Mohamed Zaki, 35, a nurse.
The father of five committed the offence in front of Masjid India, Jalan Masjid India, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, here at 9.30pm on Aug 26.
The court ordered Saiful, who works as a driver, to serve the sentence from the date of arrest on Aug 28, 2017.
According to the facts of the case, on the day of the incident, the victim with three children, aged nine, six and five, met with the accused at the scene to discuss the child custody issue and a misunderstanding occurred.
It was learnt that the couple were undergoing a divorce.
Prosecuting officer ASP Nom Phat Prackdit conducted the prosecution while the accused was not represented.
