Mat Sabu: Instead of ceramah, youths prefer the streets

PETALING JAYA: Mohamad Sabu has attributed the lower turnout at an anti-kleptocracy gathering yesterday to the lack of participation from the youth, whom he said preferred rallying on the streets.
“Youth do not prefer rallies like this that feature ceramahs. They prefer to march on the streets,” the Amanah president said, referring to speeches made by Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders including its chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
The former Kuala Kedah MP, better known as Mat Sabu was asked to comment on the number of participants at the “Love Malaysia, End Kleptocracy” rally.
PH had expected 100,000 people to attend the rally it organised at Padang Timur. However, according to them the event attracted some 25,000 only although police put the figure at around 4,000 instead.
Rallies in the past, like the ones organised by Bersih 2.0, an electoral reform group, took place in Dataran Merdeka, located in the heart of the capital.
But Mohamad Sabu said he was happy despite the lower turnout.
He also did not rule out the possibility of organising yet another rally before the impending general election.
Meanwhile, Lim said a post-mortem of the rally would be conducted to determine the actual number of people who did turn up for it.
The Penang chief minister also hailed the rally a success even though police had not given it the green light. -FMT
