PETALING JAYA: People have come from all over Malaysia to participate in the “Love Malaysia, Anti Kleptocracy” rally going on in Padang Timur here this Saturday.
One participant – Bintulu DAP committee member Corina Bulan – said that she flew in on Friday to attend the rally.
“I’m from my village so I’m here to represent the voice of the villagers and to show my support for the rally,” said Corina, who was accompanied by her 14-year-old daughter Nataleena Sarah.
Meanwhile, Padang Terap Amanah head Ismail Nazraie travelled here from Kedah with a convoy of 42 supporters to join the rally.
He said that he was looking forward to the speeches from the political leaders on Sunday night.
The rally started at about 4.25pm with the playing of the national anthem, and is expected to continue until late Saturday evening.
MEANWHILE, according to The Malaysian Insight:
Pakatan leadership pulls no punches at rally
After performances, including a lion dance, were held, opposition leaders and activists took to the huge stage set up in the middle of the field and issued a rallying cry for change.
They called on Malaysians, who had been “robbed” of their rights, to make their voices heard at the ballot box by voting out the ruling coalition and “the kleptocrat”.
The people were urged to rise up against corruption and tyranny, and reminded that they must leave to their children a Malaysia that they were proud of.
The rally marks the end of a three-month nationwide roadshow that has seen PH leaders explain to kampung and urban folk how funds were allegedly stolen from state investor 1Malaysia Development Berhad to purchase luxury assets, like real estate, paintings and jewellery.
The Malaysian Insight will be providing live coverage as today’s event unfolds.
The crowd – which organisers estimated had swelled up to 10,000 people, a figure that police refuted – booed when images of Najib were shown in the clip.
10.05PM: Wan Azizah said it did not matter what race a person was – whether Chinese, Malay, Indian or Kadazan – and stressed the need for everyone to unite.

“We need to unite, to change the government in the next election.”
10PM: Muhyiddin expressed his concern about the country being in a “darker” place under Najib’s rule.

“The nation is facing a crisis that’s on a scale never before seen in its history.
“The country’s laws are supposed to protect the people’s rights. Today, power is seemingly not with the people, but with Najib, who abuses the power.
“This is why even though the case has been brought to the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, no action is taken.”
9.50PM: Guan Eng said if Malaysians did not want to lose the country to the madness of BN, then they must get rid of “the kleptocrat”.

“We must be proud of the country we are going leave to our children. “

6.31PM: Azmin leaves the gathering.
6.30PM: Wanita Amanah chief Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said Umno and BN were the biggest kleptocrats, and it was a “dream” to see former leaders of the Malay party sharing the stage with those who had long been part of the opposition.

She said the opposition had to be smart in channelling information to people living in rural areas, to make them understand what had happened as a result of kleptocracy.
