PETALING JAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) will meet all Barisan Nasional (BN) division chiefs and candidates-designate to finalise its strategy for the 14th general election, which may be called any time now.
This is the first time Najib, who is BN chairman, is meeting BN division heads and candidates-designate since his meeting with the ruling coalition’s bigwigs in a three-day closed door retreat at the Institute Latihan Memperkasa Ummah in Janda Baik, Pahang in April.
At the retreat, it was learnt Najib had told leaders of BN component parties that GE14 could be held as early as October or be pushed back to next year, Sin Chew Daily reported today.
A source told the daily that all BN division chiefs and secretaries have been invited to the meeting aimed at briefing them on the final preparations for the election, the BN election machinery, winning factors as well as boosting their morale.
The source pointed out that it has been the BN tradition that in the run-up to an election, the national chairman will meet all division chiefs for a briefing on their level of preparedness and to discuss the likely polls date.
“The prime minister wants to ascertain whether BN’s election machinery is in its highest gear, and whether all division chiefs, as heads of the local election machinery, are fully supportive of their candidates-designate.
“Najib wants to use the coming meeting to give the attendees a pep talk as only with a united BN could the coalition hope to win big. He is expected to brief them on the winning formula for BN.
“BN is all set for GE14, it is just waiting for the right time to call the election.”
The source said seat allocation will not be on the agenda as the matter will be left solely to Najib and leaders of other BN component parties.
