Propaganda arm Jasa gets 31pct funding boost

BUDGET 2018 | Putrajaya's propaganda arm Special Affairs Department (Jasa) has secured a 31.1 percent increase in funding under 2018 budget, as the government gears up for a crucial national election next year.
Jasa will be allocated RM30 million next year, compared to RM22.9 million in 2017.
This is part of the RM603 million increase to the Communication and Multimedia Ministry's budget for next year.
Besides Jasa, the ministry's strategic communications funding was increased by RM3.9 million to RM12.4 million in 2018.
But while Jasa's and the strategic communications funding had been raised, the national news service Bernama saw its funding cut from RM60.8 million in 2017 to RM46 million in 2018.
At the same time, the Election Commission (EC) received a 662.7 percent boost in its funding from RM48.6 million this year to RM370.7 million in 2018, ostensibly for it to organise the 14th general election.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's mandate is set to expire in June next year, after which his administration will become a caretaker government.
Elections must be held by August, 2018.- Mkini
